Making Masks for Charity

Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor

7 September 2020

In the current COVID-19 pandemic, and with the encouragement of Director General of Health, Malaysia to use fabric masks, which is reusable and therefore more affordable and  environment friendly, the Club embarked on “Project Mask”.  The project was conceptualised in August 2020 and distribution started in September 2020.

The initiative was undertaken with two specific objectives:

  1. To help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by providing these masks to children in shelter homes, and to schools where the majority of students are from the lower socio-economic group.
  2. To utilise the tailoring skills of the B40 community so that they could earn an income. (B40 is the lowest median income category, i.e. household incomes at the bottom 40% of the population).

The club members researched and purchased the right fabric that is comfortable as well a good deterrent to this virus.

The first batch goes to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (T) Ladang Bukit Jalil.  Our members (District Chairman Shanti Menon and Past District Extension Chairman Parimala Satheesan) visited the school.
