Aid to Rumah Perlindungan Sosial, a shelter
Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor
10 September 2020
Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor visited Rumah Perlindungan Sosial (RPS) on 10 September 2020. RPS was set up in Klang in February 1996 and is a joint project of the National Council of Women’s Organisations and the YWCA of Malaysia.
RPS has over the years provided holistic help for women, children and teenagers in crisis: victims of domestic violence, single mothers, unwed mothers, rape survivors, abused children and runaway teens. Ms Shoba Aiyar, the Shelter Manager is always in contact with our Club for assistance when the need arises.
Our club’s monetary contribution has helped to care for 2 single pregnant women. Their nutrition intake has improved and they are no longer anaemic. We also arranged for a contractor to look into the poor water supply which has been rectified and the residents are able to enjoy their bath.
They needed a fridge and some money to repair the front gate and fencing. The Club managed to get a sponsor and a brand new fridge was purchased and delivered. Club President Indira Menon, District Chairman Shanti Menon and Club Treasurer Malliga visited the shelter home and handed over the fridge as well as fabric masks to the residents.
We will be sourcing funds to help with the repairs for the gate and fencing. We hope to continue to support and be vigilant of the needs of this shelter home.
