Water Poverty Challenge Project
– Kampung Pos Semoi, Lenjang, Pahang
Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur
18-20 September 2020
The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur carried out their first Water Poverty Challenge Project at Kampung Pos Semoi, Lenjang on 18-20 September, 2020, Pahang. President Caylice Sabado, together with some club members, guests and NGOs travelled in 20 four-wheel drive vehicles into the interior parts of the jungle to reach the Orang Asli settlement. The journey took them about 5 hours through some muddy, rocky and hilly roads and at times crossing streams, before reaching the destination.
Upon arrival, the gentlemen started building tents, and installing canvas on the roof of the long house, while the ladies started preparing meals for the residents of the 3 villages to enjoy. The group generously brought enough food to feed the residents living in these 3 villages for 3 days.
In the morning of 19 September, 2020, President Caylice distributed 42 units of Nano water filters, Beryls chocolates, Fuji Bakery custard breads, some jeans and clothing sponsored by Niichi Fashion to the Orang Asli community at these villages. Each individual home received a Nano water filter and gifts with happy and excited faces and they reciprocated by cheering out loud the name of Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur. It was indeed a blessing for them to be able to consume clean water from that day onward.
It was an adventurous 2 nights and 3 days experience for the President and her contingent, and before departing the camp base, haircuts were also given to the Orang Asli community from all the 3 villages.
It was truly a fulfilling project and many lives benefited from these Nano Water Filters. The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur has truly “Lead the Change” by touching so many lives living in such remote area.
