Recently IWC Subang Selangor’s member Shoba Aiyar brought the case of Mythili to the club’s attention.  Mythili, a homemaker was finding it difficult to manage her budget and had unpaid utility bills and needed some assistance to clear them. She faced this dilemma very often as her husband does not have a steady job.

IWCSS decided that rather than giving the money to pay off her outstanding bills, she be given assistance to empower herself as empowerment is one of the goals of International Inner Wheel in term 2021-2022. Once this idea was accepted by her, she came up with the idea of setting up a stall near her home and hone in on her cooking skills.

IWCSS gave her all the encouragement and she came up with a list of equipment that she needed.  IWCSS donated seed money for her to start the stall that sells breakfast items and soft drinks.  She purchased the necessary equipment like rice cooker, pressure cooker, drinks decanter, food warmer etc. and in no time the stall was up and running.

Within a month she has started to see the rewards as she is earning a tidy sum each day which supplements her household expenses. This brings to mind the old adage ‘Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.  Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime’.

As J K Rowlings aptly said with regards to Empowered Women “We do not need magic to transform our world.  We carry all of the power we need inside ourselves”.  Mythili has found hers.
