Deepavali cheer came early this year for the girls of Karunai Ilham Home in Kepong, with compliments from the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL). Saiva Siddhantha Mandram is the organisation that runs the home for girls and another for boys in Anbu IIlam in Ulu Klang. As of today, there are 41 children aged 10 to 15 years from distressed homes staying in.

IWCKL had taken cognisance of their pressing needs and was happy to donate a Panasonic 18 kg-load washing machine, a premium grinder, 2 pressure cookers, a thosai pan, material for girls’ kurtis of 55 metres and settled the tailoring charges for the tops of 26 girls at RM28 each. In addition, the Club handed over sugar and milk, 12 bottles of vitamin C tablets, Milo packets, 30 pillows, biscuits and titbits from member Balvinder. The Club once again appreciated Beryls of Malaysia for donating 50 cans of cocoa powder and 48 bars of chocolates. Another member, Lyna Boon, generously contributed face masks. President Jinny Lum was on hand to present the gift items to Mr Muthiah S, a representative from the home.

This project was coordinated by Rajeswari and ably assisted by PP Navam, Chandrika, IIW PBD Joy Sundram and Datin Dr Retnavathi. Other members were only too happy to donate gifts of cash to this wonderful cause.

Indeed, on this auspicious Festival of Lights, IWCKL is delighted to illuminate the lives of these children and bring them some joy and good cheer.

Happy Deepavali to all our Hindu members!
