Deepavali, the Festival Lights is colourful and steeped in tradition. Traditional clothes in brilliant shades and in the latest trends are the order of the day. Rangolis or floor decorations of bright hues adorn the front of homes and twinkling lights add to the gaiety of the festival especially at night.

Families clean their homes and altars beforehand. Special treats are prepared along with varieties of titbits to be offered for prayers to ancestors, family deities and also for feasting afterwards. Festive meals are also cooked for the family, friends and relatives. Many festive items are purchased at this time to add to the gaiety of the celebrations.

Unfortunately, for many people, this is not the case, especially those families that are poverty stricken and thus unable to partake as much in the festival as they would like to because of their lack of funds. They are dependent on kind hearted benefactors to make it more meaningful for them.

Thus, the Inner Wheel Club of Klang (IWC Klang) with the help of the caretaker at Shridi Sai Baba Centre, Kapar, donated traditional clothes for the festive season to 40 families in need. This has served not only to reduce some of the burden for the families but added to their festive cheer. Members of IWC Klang who participated in the project felt blessed and gratified to see the happiness on the faces of the recipients after getting their Deepavali clothes.
