The past one and a half years have been indescribably difficult due to  COVID-19, more so for homes that depend on the benevolence of the general public. One such home is the Rumah Kanak-kanak Trinity (RKT, the Trinity Children's Home) in Petaling Jaya. As such the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) felt it should step up to assist.

Earlier, member Datin Gerardine together with her sisters Angeline and Christina, had sponsored a new Lenovo laptop. Two other friends, Datin Christine and Ms Cheong got them a new 3+2+1 sofa set, long wooden table and 10 metal chairs, plus other pre-loved furniture.

Then on the 9th November 2021, 10 members of IWCKL headed by President Jinny Lum descended on RKT bearing more gifts. President Jinny presented a cheque of RM1000, and Art Kits valued at RM350 to the home’s budding artists. Food provisions were also donated by generous members, including tea-time treats. Friends of IWCKL also chipped in with an array of other delights.

The members left after the completion of the project, leaving a trail of happy faces. RKT is a sanctuary for orphaned, abandoned, battered children. Their aim is to provide care, education and reinstate hope and restore their faith in humanity.

One child made an especially poignant statement when the laptop was presented, “Thank you, Aunties.” This is the first time somebody had given us something new, instead of a second-hand item.”

Truly, there is no exercise better for the heart, than reaching down and lifting people up. This is the spirit that Inner Wheel Clubs embody.
