President Santhi Sundara and Past President Lucy Barrock of the Inner Wheel Club of Butterworth met up with Mr Yoganraj of the office of the Honourable Member of the State Legislative Assembly for Padang Lalang, YB Chong Eng. IWC Butterworth has from its inception two years ago always strived to have a good working relationship with YB Chong Eng as she is a bastion of Women’s Rights, Empowerment and Chairman of the Committee for Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs in Penang State.
This was President Santhi’s first discussion with Mr Yoganraj since she started her tenure as President and it was a fruitful meeting indeed. The Club had been involved in a Tuition Project for the children residing there. As the project was affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic lockdowns, the club shifted its focus to setting up the Desa Wawasan Children’s library which was successfully achieved last Inner Wheel term and opened by YB Chong Eng herself.
President Santhi brought along two large cartons of books which the Club had acquired for the library and passed them to Mr Yoganraj. She also discussed joint collaboration efforts for Women’s Empowerment and meet-ups for more engagement between IWC Butterworth and YB Chong Eng’s Office. It was a fruitful meeting indeed and plans are afoot to participate in the State’s ‘Penang goes Orange’ drive to highlight the issue of violence against women which exacerbated during the Pandemic lockdowons.
