Masked-up Santa Rinas from Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur(IWCKL) came a Christmas-visiting a trifle early this year to the Infant Jesus Convent (IJC) Retirement Home for the Nuns in Cheras. This Home is a sanctuary for about 30 Christian nuns between the ages of 70 to 90 years. These retired Sisters of the Order had dedicated their lives to enriching the minds of numerous Malaysian  youth. They are all in their sunset years now and well deserving of their rest in such a tranquil and well-maintained Home.

IWCKL had been giving their support for over a decade and more, and this year is no different, Covid-19 pandemic or no.

Due to stringent SOPs, the Christmas Lunch treat, the festivities and merrymaking had to be given a miss. However, the gifts were there, and they all came from the heart.

Members of IWCKL came out in force to donate generously, and with the monies collected, project coordinators, ISO Ooi Bee Ngoh and PP Margaret Yee, were able  to purchase 2 Mistral Tower Fans, 3 Elba 5L and 3 Panasonic 4L Thermo Pots, 1 Philips 8L Multi Cooker, 5 boxes Tena Adult diaper pants and many others. Member Balvinder rustled up  boxes of jam tarts and Beryls too donated 50 cans of cocoa powder drinks.

Sister Stephanie , the person in charge , together with Sister Gertrude, was overwhelmed by the generosity displayed and could not thank  IWCKL enough. Sister even shared that recently, ISO Bee Ngoh, due to the close proximity of her home to IJC, even had the kindness to bring some delicacies for them to savour, and enjoyed it they all certainly did.

President Jinny then gave a short speech, followed by Sister Stephanie who spoke so eloquently. After the presentation, as a gesture of appreciation, Sisters presented all 12 members with a beautiful recyclable bag each. Before leaving, everyone spontaneously broke out in  some Christmas Carols, amidst  much noise, laughter and good cheer. Piling into our respective vehicles, we all truly felt the spirit of Christmas upon us that morning.

Our heartfelt thanks to all our generous donors, for without them, all these would not have been possible. To ISO Bee Ngoh and PP Margaret, kudos to a project successfully carried out.

As a parting note, a quote  by St Francis of Assisi,

“For it is in the giving that we receive”.

May the spirit of Christmas bring peace, hope and warmth to all. Merry Christmas!
