Talk on "Trauma: the aftermath of violence"

The Inner Wheel Club of Butterworth organised a special virtual fellowship for its members which it opened up to Inner Wheel District 330 with a talk aptly titled “Trauma: the aftermath of violence” in conjunction with its observance of "Orange Month" in support of the United Nation's campaign theme of "Elimination of Violence against Women".

 

25 members attended the fellowship including members of the District Executive Committee headed by District Chairman Shamini Nair. National Representative for Districts 330 and 331 Ambika Menon and Deputy Parimala Satheesan, along with International Inner Wheel Board Director Datin Seetha Lakshmi and International Inner Wheel Editor/Media Manager Cheng Yeok San also graced the meet up with their presence.

 

The speaker, Datin Indranee Liew is trained in law and embraced a 31-year career in education in Malaysia and England as well as experienced in the area of active teaching and learning strategies, classroom behaviour management and special education.

 

Datin Indranee touched on the technical aspects of abuse and explained vividly what trauma is and its manifestations in children, adults and the elderly. Datin Indranee also explained about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and its effects on an individual’s physical and emotional health, also the impact and different phases of Trauma, Behaviours, Protective Factors and Post Traumatic Growth.

 

Attendees found this fellowship to be most informative and beneficial. Plans are afoot to engage with Datin Indranee and collaborate with her on projects for the benefit of women and children in line with the aspirations of Inner Wheel Clubs.
