Inner Wheel Club of Butterworth empowers with sewing machines

15 January 2022
The Inner Wheel Club of Butterworth (IWC Butterworth) conducted its first charity project for 2022 on 15th January. Club members donated generously for President Santhi Sundara’s pet project of empowering women from economically challenged backgrounds by providing them with sewing machines.
Five women from five different location were identified to receive a brand-new sewing machine each after a thorough assessment of their backgrounds. The committee also scoured the local market for reasonably priced but good quality machines with the maximum range of features possible.
Members organised the handover with a tutorial by the supplier Mr Phang, who also patiently put each lady through the paces individually.
President Santhi, herself a successful businesswoman, plans to communicate with the recipients and guide them on marketing their finished work. She has already set up a Whatsapp group to communicate with them and be available for any other assistance they might require.
After the handover of the sewing machines, the eight club members who attended the event, adjourned for Masala tea and snacks with the recipients which was organised specially for the occasion. It was satisfying indeed to experience the gratitude expressed by the recipients who can look forward to subsidising their incomes with the machines and thus uplift their families with the additional cash which they expect to rake in from their new ventures.
