Cervical Cancer cases form the 3rd highest number recorded among the types of cancer in Malaysia. In heeding the call by IIW President Ebe Martines, IWC of Taiping President, Karamjeet Kaur spearheaded this project to provide free pap smear screening to 30 ladies from the lower-income group followed by a talk on Cervical Cancer Awareness.
The club's member, Past President Dr Karen Jeet Kaur, an Obstetrics & Gynecology Consultant coordinated with KPJ Medical Centre, Taiping and Lablink M Sdn Bhd in conducting the free pap smear test. She gave an informative and interesting talk to about 50 ladies. The event was graced by Guest of Honour, Ms S. Kavaramma, Director of Women's Development, Perak. Also in attendance from Inner Wheel District 330 were District Extension Organiser Ms Peggy Lee and Webmaster Ms Lucy Barrock.
The participants were treated to a brunch and left with much knowledge gained.
