Donation of water filters to cancer survivors

Some time in early February 2020, through the generous donations of members and well-wishers, the Inner Wheel Club of Alor Setar (IWC AS) bought 14 water filters to give away to cancer survivors who do not have access to clean and filtered drinking water. Plans to organise a programme to invite and give away the water filters to the recipients had to be constantly postponed due to the various lockdowns imposed by the Government as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On 19 March 2022, an opportunity presented itself when Cancer Survivors Malaysia availed a slot for the Club to give away the water filters during their I WANT TO LIVE programme at a Hotel in Alor Setar.
More than 100 cancer survivors and their care-givers attended this programme which was officiated by the Director of Health, Kedah. A series of interesting talks were also delivered, all related to managing cancer, where to go for help and the importance of early detection.
IWC AS was then called upon to present the water filters to 14 recipients who had been identified by the Organisers as the most deserving. Vice President Tunku Zamharir, accompanied by Past President Padmini and Secretary/CC Shantha gave away the filters to the 14 recipients who profusely expressed their appreciation.
It was a morning to remember as the presentation of the water filters was indeed a long-overdue event for IWC AS.
