Sri Muda, Shah Alam has been the focus in the last few months where the recent floods and devastation took place.  IWCSS (Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor) decided that it would be apt to have their outreach programme for Women’s International Day 2022 to be held here. In line with 2021-2022 theme, Pink First, the Club undertook a medical camp ‘PINK IT FOR CANCER’ with emphasis on women’s health and awareness.

President Indira of IWCSS, who retired from the position of Director of Business Development of NCSM (National Cancer Society Malaysia), coordinated this camp.  The focus was in equipping women from B40 families to understand and take ownership of their health and well-being.

The tests provided were: Clinical Breast Examination, Pap smear, Blood Pressure Check, Body Mass Index (BMI), Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C test. These tests were conducted in an orderly manner.

Dr. Dalilah Kamaruddin of NCSM gave a clear and informative talk on Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer and what are the signs to look out for, importance of screening and early detection and where to seek the right treatment.  The good response at the Q & A sessions proved that awareness has been raised.  This certainly brought much gratification to the members of IWCSS and all parties involved.

This was followed by a presentation on reusable sanitary napkins by Serum Initiative.  Here again there was much interest from the participants.

The whole event was a success as there were over 80 participants and the women went away with goody bags and lunch packs.  A big shout out to all the lovely ladies from the IWCSS for coordinating, executing and looking into all the details to ensure a hassle free and successful event strictly adhering to the SOPs set.

IWCSS extends its sincere appreciation to Tuan P. Yugarajah, Ahli Majlis/Pengerusi MPP Zon 9, Shah Alam for sponsoring the venue; Dr Dalilah and team of National Cancer Society Malaysia for all the medical screening; Dr Malar V. Segarmurthy and Mahila team of SSIOM (Sathya Sai International Organization Malaysia) for the registration and meals, Kimberly-Clark for women’s toiletries, Dr. Soma (Plastic Surgeon) for Ph balanced skin cream and Mr. Ling Sze Nin and team from Serum Initiative for the reusable sanitary pads (made by Rohingya Women Development Network).

It was indeed a day of Women Empowering Women.
