In support of good agriculture practices, the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) is inordinately pleased to give an update on their Sustainable Farming Project for the Orang Asli Settlement of Kampung Jong in Perak. This endeavour under the Water Project started over a year ago, during Immediate Past President Caylize Ong-Sabado’s term.

Despite the numerous constraints brought forth due to the Covid -19 pandemic, the Club members were undeterred. Past National Representative (PNR) Juanita Lee, together with the generous contribution from IWCKL members, managed to coordinate and oversee the project to fruition. Heartfelt thanks goes to Mr John Chin, a friend of IWCKL, who is an integral part of this whole Water Project.

Mr Chin oversaw the construction of wells for irrigation, the transportation and supply of economically -viable seedlings, organic fertilisers, as well as providing farming know-how to these villagers. IWCKL is greatly indebted to him.

A recent incident is a case in point. The farm was overrun by wild boars, rendering the farmers helpless and anxious. President Jinny Lum immediately approved the purchase of barbed wires, and with Mr Chin’s swift response, the villagers can now rest easy.

Some notable achievements are made by Encik Maslan, Encik Hashim, Encik Aziza, En Jabor, En Ramlah and Encik Logam. IWCKL is indeed proud of their progress and the Club wishes all these farmers continued success.

A project of this scale needs the concerted effort by many. To all who made this possible, IWCKL has this to say, “Thank you, what a positive difference you have made to the lives of these Orang Asli of Kampung Jong”.
