Vaisakhi which falls on 14th April this year, is the most important day in the Sikh calendar. To commemorate this auspicious day, the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) decided to carry out 6 projects.

The first was for an elderly mother and her daughter, Manjheet Kaur, in Bangi. Both are in poor health and depend on welfare aid for their living and medical expenses. IWCKL set aside RM2500 to help them, out of which RM1251 went to the purchase of a hospital bed, the rest for food supplies and a cheque for their immediate needs.

Next, a donation of RM2500 was made out to ‘The Independent Living and Training Centre’, Rawang. This centre trains people with special needs and is run admirably by Rina who herself is physically-challenged.

Another contribution of RM3500 was also made to the Sikh Welfare Society recently. This benefitted 24 students who each received RM150 to help with their education. IWCKL member Balvinder who is also the Vice President of this Society, received the cheque on their behalf.

During a luncheon the week before, IWCKL Honorary Member, Toh Puan Aishah Ong together with President Jinny Lum took the opportunity to present a cheque for RM2500 to Ms Jasvinder Kaur, a representative from the Punjabi School Pulapol, a Police training centre in Kuala Lumpur. The donation will be used to buy learning materials for the 58 students there.

One day ago, too IWCKL donated RM700 to Balbeer Singh from Puchong, which was initially meant for his wife. However, his dear wife passed away, so the money will help him to conduct prayers for her.

Another project for Nanak Kitchen, a Soup Kitchen for the underprivileged in Chow Kit area, is still pending.

All the above projects were coordinated by member Ms Balvinder who worked tirelessly with Datin Jangir and her team to see that the donations were properly disbursed. IWC KL gives a huge word of thanks to them, and to all its members who made these projects a resounding success.

To cap it all, IWCKL fraternity of Sikh members hosted a wonderful luncheon at Sagar Restaurant in Bangsar on 31st March. Many ladies came bedecked in all their finery in their Salwar suits, amidst much happy chatter, merriment and sumptuous cuisine. It was a well-deserved celebration, a pat on the back for the Club because the magnitude of these Vaisakhi projects combined, eclipsed all other previous festive endeavours, to date.
