Mother’s Day Celebration
Inner Wheel Club of Bangsar
7 May 2022
The members of IWC Bangsar got together for a tea-party on 7th of May 2022 in conjunction with the Club’s Mother’s Day celebrations. This year, members had the opportunity to invite 25 underprivileged mothers and grandmothers from the B40 community living at the PPR Taman Putra Damai, Ara Damansara. The club identified the women with the help of the Parish Integral Human Development Ministry (PIHDM) of Kuala Lumpur in support of the Urban Poor Programme.
Members presented some personal-care items such body sprays, shower creams/soaps; essential items such as sanitary napkins and even some luxury chocolates packed in beautiful carrier bags. All the items were donated by Mad Hat Asia, through the initiative of a relative of one of IWC Bangsar’s members.
During the gathering, the women were invited to introduce themselves and share their motherhood experience. Many of them talked about the challenges of being single parents, having special needs children and handling their own terminally ill mothers. A number also shared tearful stories of their own mothers’ journeys which shaped their courage.
The ladies of IWC Bangsar had a memorable time getting to know first-hand the challenges of the urban-poor. They were happy to bring some cheer to these brave women and show empathy as well as moral support by listening to them and giving encouragement which serves to empower them and enhance their lives.
Message from the PIHDM caretaker:
“Dear May, ...Today’s was a lovely event... it was a great idea to have a celebration with them and for them. Assunta said the mothers were very happy and Maria called it wonderful. Thank you to all your members who attended, did so much, talked to the mums and fed them. Thank you also for the gifts prepared and the thoughtfulness.”
