A child has a special way of adding joy to a day. Our souls are healed just by being with them.

So on this note, and for the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) Hari Raya Project, the members made a beeline for ‘Rumah Kita’ ,a non-governmental organisation (NGO)  located in the city. Founded seven years ago, this NGO shelters women who found themselves with child out of wedlock, or are victims of sexual abuse. Their mission is to reduce baby dumping by providing a sanctuary for them, to see to their immediate needs, and to empower them to reclaim their lives. Taking in anyone regardless of colour or creed, this centre so ably run by the Director Puan Suraya Razak and her team of dedicated volunteers, is solely dependent on the largesse of the public.

IWCKL, headed by Project Coordinators Puan Sri Nora Marzuki and Past President (PP) Puan Robin was happy to donate baby diapers for about 17 babies, some physically and intellectually-challenged,which was indeed heart-rending . In addition, there were formula milk, toiletries, detergent, kain sarong, tudung, cooking oil, foods, milk bottles and teats(donated by PP Elena), 2 huge boxes of dressed chicken and not to mention too, 2 pre-loved portable sewing machines. Since this is the season of giving, green packets of ‘duit raya’ were handed out to each of the thirty pregnant girls and the new mummies by President Jinny. The 11 members who attended were honoured to have with them Toh Puan Aishah Ong in attendance.

The sight of the little ones toddling about, some in deep slumber, all with such angelic faces is such a balm for the heart. The Home even took the trouble to prepare an extensive spread for their guests to partake. The residents were all cheerful and truly glad to have visitors who really cared.

A visit like this is always a humbling experience,an eye-opener, to see the extent ordinary folks, all volunteers go the distance, and more, to make a life-changing difference to another’s life. IWCKL is indeed grateful to all members who made this heartwarming donation possible, and to Puan Sri Nora and her team for making this project a resounding success
