INNER WHEEL CLUB OF KUALA LUMPUR'S LUNCHEON TO CELEBRATE HARI RAYA
Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur
18 May 2022
‘Spirit of Friendship’ was the theme of Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL)’s Hari Raya Fellowship Luncheon hosted by its Muslim members. Held at Kelab Golf Seri Selangor in Petaling Jaya, club members were pleased to have as their Guest of Honour their Royal Patron, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Binti Almarhum Tengku Besar Mahmud grace the occasion. A picture of elegance, Tuanku was warmly welcomed by Honorary Member and host, Toh Puan Aishah Ong, President Jinny Lum, the Organising Committee headed by Puan Sri Nora Marzuki, members and their guests.
After the opening address by the emcee Tunku Maziah, followed by a welcome speech by President Jinny, lunch was served. And what an extensive buffet spread, a veritable feast, it was! Many local Malay dishes were there, not to mention many delightful finger foods and cookies. Guests were indeed hard-put trying very hard to try everything!
All ladies came in their traditional bes, so many looking resplendent, perhaps acutely aware too of the two years lost due to the Covid 19 pandemic and now trying very hard to make up for that loss. The happy chatter, the camaraderie, the wide smiles were ‘hallmarks’ of this lovely occasion.
There were more. Guests were entertained by ‘Wan Azhar and his Magic Violin’ band. A talented trio they are indeed, who make such beautiful music together and got many of the guests transported into the songs of the yesteryears. Next, was a fashion parade of ‘Songket’, a traditional textile woven by Malay weavers. The special material, woven in silk is intertwined with metallic gold or silver threads. Gasps of awe were audible across the hall at the exclusivity of the songket displayed.
Lucky draws abounded too. IWCKL contributed a few paintings for the draw, the catch was the winners had to work quite hard before they could walk away with the expensive paintings. The Organising Committee, led by Puan Sri Nora too got the whole floor going with a rousing rendition of the ‘Berjaya ‘Song, albeit with a lyric-change. A short impromptu line dance session ensued, to the beat of ‘Achy Breaky Heart’, the usual suspect.
Before the afternoon drew to a close, President Jinny, on behalf of IWCKL, presented a gift of appreciation to Tuanku Aishah for her presence, her kind donation to IWCKL and her years of unwavering support.
Members and guests then departed rather reluctantly, but not without expressing their heartfelt thanks to Toh Puan Aishah Ong for her guidance and huge financial support towards the function, the Organising Committee comprising of Puan Sri Nora, Pn Robin, Tunku Maziah, Pn Sharifah, Pn Mubina, Datin Hani and Datin Hasnah, for their unstinting effort in making this occasion one to cherish and remember.
A word of thanks too goes to Immediate Past District Chairman Shanti Menon for her kind donation towards IWCKL.
A final word, a huge thank you to all members of IWCKL, who are the heartbeats of the Club, without whom all these projects, events would not have been possible. In the spirit of Hari Raya, ‘Ribuan Terima Kasih diucapkan kepada semua!’
