Patients in Malaysia enjoy an excellent healthcare system that is graded as 49th in the world by the World Health Organisation.  It has a two-tier health care system consisting of both a government based national healthcare that is accorded to the patients at no or minimal cost and a co-existing private healthcare system.

Most medication is free to patients in the public hospitals, however certain testing materials are not available.  Recently IWCSS was approached by a diabetic patient Krsishnaveni Subramaniam who could not afford the much-needed glucose test strips.  This request was soon met by the sister of PP Sumodhini.

Santaamah, has a tumour in her brain, which has resulted in facial palsy and weakness in the legs. If the surgery is delayed, it would impact more of her movement. The Welfare Department covers most part of the cost of surgery and stay at the hospital. However, RM5,000/- has to be paid by her. This amount was difficult for her family to raise.

Her son approached IWCSS for some financial aid.  President Indira soon got a sponsor for the said amount and Santaamah’s surgery was done on 14th June. IWCSS has been notified that the tumour in the brain was successfully removed. She will soon be commencing physio and speech therapy.

IWCSS extend its sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Ms Priscilla Yong for her kindness for the timely donation.
