On 21st July 2022 Secretary Seema of the Inner Wheel Club of Johor Bahru (IWC JB), at the invitation of District Secretary of District 3, Carole Edwards, attended the handover meeting of the IWC of Durham UK. The meeting was held at the Ramside Hall Hotel over a delicious lunch organised by the Club Secretary and Treasurer, Elaine Leake.

All members wore a rose in memory of past members. This is customary at every handover meeting. The meeting began with incoming President Christine Atkin stating the key objectives of Inner Wheel after which, she was presented the Regalia by District Chairman (DC) Cliona Kear because Immediate Past President Beryl Freeman could not be present at the meeting due to unavoidable circumstances.

Thereafter, the President presented their badges to all her office bearers and gave her members an insight into the activities during her term. It was a formal meeting interspersed with wit and humour.

There was a talk by Steph Archbold, founder of a foundation called Love Amelia which was set up to help families in Sunderland who are experiencing hardship for one reason or another. IWC Durham will be supporting this charity during President Christine’s term.

Steph was presented with a bag full of blankets ranging from a size that fits in a pram to a full-size bed. These blankets were knitted by some very kind and generous members of the club.

Secretary Seema conveyed best wishes from her club to theirs and presented the IWC JB banneret to President Christine. She also handed over a banneret to DC Cliona in exchange for the one that was presented to her during her last visit to the UK when she met with members of District 3.

Secretary Seema said that it was amazing to see a club chartered in 1944 still going strong and living up to the Inner Wheel objectives. Meeting all the lovely ladies who have been members of Inner Wheel for a very long time, cherishing the friendship amongst them and enjoying being of service to society, was an amazing experience.
