In conjunction with this year’s Deepavali, the Inner Wheel of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) organised a project on the 10th October 2022. It benefitted 61 poor students from 5 kindergartens and their families in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia. The adorable children entertained the audience to songs and dance. 11 members & 2 guests participated in this event.

The Club is grateful to the donors and members of IWCKL for the generous and kind donations towards this meaningful project. IWCKL received donations in cash (amounting to RM 9800) and in kind. The money raised was used to buy groceries. Rajeswari contributed 122 packets of murukku flour, while Juanita gave RM 200 cash voucher for the Texas Chicken. Navam sponsored take away lunch for the parents, transport for food provision to centre and rental of the hall. Nicole donated 20 rounds of Japanese Cheesecake.

The club is appreciative of coordinators Navam, Rajeswari and team for their great effort and hard work. Navam's sister-in-law Kannagi was very helpful and led the convoy to the venue. The groceries were purchased from Speedmart. It is a small outlet and IWCKL wanted to support the owner who is handicapped. The cashier could only accept a maximum of RM500 for payment by credit card. This was compounded by the fact that they did not provide delivery services. The total weight of the stuff exceeded 200 Kg! Packing the groceries into bags was a tedious chore. A lorry was used to transport the bags to the centre.

Bags of groceries were presented to the families. The groceries included cooking oil, milo, cordial, sardine, rice, flour, sugar, beehoon, margarine, milk, rice flour, chocolate, curry powder etc. Each family was given 1/4 size of the whole cheesecake. Packed lunch consisting of Briyani rice & chicken were given to the parents. The students were served the Texas Chicken at the centre.

It was so gratifying to be able to share the Deepavali joy and happiness with the students and their families. Now they are assured of enjoying a happy Deepavali. After the event Navam received “Thank You” voice messages in Tamil from 4 parents. Some commented that they have enough food to last the whole month. One mother said her child was so happy because this package had Cadbury Zip Chocolate. They don't usually get such lovely treats. The Club’s contributions meant a lot to them. IWCKL has done well to Work Wonders.
