Deepavali Cheer
Inner Wheel Club of Johor Bahru
16 October 2022
Inner wheel Club Johor Bahru has been sponsoring Berkat Children’s Home monthly for the last 1 year in providing extra tuition to some children and helping with their school work.
Berkat Children’s Home, a registered home for children is a non-profit organisation located in Johor Bahru, which has 2 pastors assigned to run it.
Currently the home, houses 20 children of Chinese and Indian ethnicity.
Two houses (side by side, separated by a fence) are used, to segregate the boys and the girls’ quarters. Some are as young as 5 years old and the oldest is 18 years of age.
Their parents (some are single parents) don’t have the time or financial means to see them through this phase. IWCJB has been hosting Deepavali Cheer consecutively for the past 2 years for the children with sumptuous Indian food, drinks, cakes and Baskins- Robbins ice cream partially sponsored by Baskins-Robbins to celebrate the Essence of Deepavali.
The President Natassha and Sponsors gifted the children with flasks with their names on them and a bright orange T shirt each to add to the celebration. Seema Unnithan, Secretary of IWCJB also explained to the children the meaning of Deepavali, the festival of lights and the story of why Indians
Celebrate Deepavali.
The club members Nalini, Sheena, Sham and Marlene mingled with the children and took plenty of photos to cherish these precious moments with them. It was a wonderful prelude to Deepavali and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these lovely children.
