International Day of Peace with IWC Ipoh

The International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21st September every year. In conjunction with the celebration, the Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh (IWC Ipoh) with the theme of the year being "Work Wonders", launched an event with the indigenous people or Orang Asli at a Settlement at Kampung Ayer Denak, Tronoh Perak on 8th October 2022. The event was held from 9 am to 1 pm. A van of 17 and a car of 5 IWC Ipoh members and volunteers gathered at Datin Ghana’s residence at Ipoh City Centre and departed by 7.40am for their destination at Tronoh. The journey to reach the Orang Asli Settlement took around 45 minutes.
As the visitors arrived by 9.00 am, The Orang Asli settlers of the Kampung turned up to welcome them and play host. The organising chairman of the project was PP Parmeswary the Peace team included PP Datin Ghana n PP Maggie.
The village chief, Tok Batin, Ariff bin Ngah Omar and Mr.Adeen, the church representative, were on hand to welcome the visitors and introduce IWC Ipoh’s members to the community. Around 50 families of 100 adults NS 37 school going children from the kampung participated in the event which began with prayers by IWC Ipoh’s members.
It kicked off soon after with a cake-cutting ceremony amongst the children and the distribution of goody bags containing snacks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and face masks for kids. Besides these were also items contributed by Club Members such as toys, story books, activity books for children from primary one to six, kitchen utensils, clothing, and socks by Mr Moorthy of the Green Town Rotary Club for primary and secondary school children. There were also snacks including 'kacang putih', among others.
Then the event continued with the first activity which was colouring with the theme of ''world peace'' for young children below 12 years old. On the other side outdoors, a cooking demo was carried out for the women of the village. The demo was conducted in 4 groups of 10 adults each. The menu was all Indian style with preparations like Sardine Varuval, Egg Curry, Sardine Cutlet, and Sambar.
After both sections of activities are completed, lunch was served with the demonstrated dishes along with a main luncheon prepared by the residents of the Settlement. Everyone showed very good teamwork and had a wonderful time full of joy and fun. It was an enjoyable and memorable event indeed. Members of IWC Ipoh haave done extremely well and look forward to their next project. The Club thanked the Lay Leader of the Church at the settlement, Mr Adeen who was very supportive and all club members as well as sponsors who contributed to its successful project. #workwonders
