Project 10 – HIV Awareness
Inner Wheel Club of Klang
29 October 2022
Pandemic, essentially is an epidemic not limited to a community or district but threatens a wider area such as a state, country or even the whole world. The Corona virus (COVID-19) that overran the entire country is in effect a pandemic outbreak.
The HIV/AIDS pandemic could kill up to 100 million people in 2025. HIV- the virus that causes AIDS found its way from Africa to Haiti and then to the United States and beyond circa 1969. It now has infection rates as high as 25% in southern and eastern Africa. Infection rates are rising again in Asia and the Americas and if unchecked, AIDS could kill 31 million people in India and 18 million in China by 2025.
Effective education on sexual practices and precautions taken to avoid blood-borne infections has helped reduce infection rates in several African countries. The number of AIDS-related deaths in Africa may reach 90-100 million by 2025.
On 29th October 2022, President Dr Theyveeka Selvy of the Inner Wheel Club (IWC) of Klang has taken the initiative to create awareness of the AIDS pandemic among members of IWC Kota Kinabalu, Sabah through sharing knowledge on HIV for the purpose of ending the pandemic and reducing AIDS, related deaths. She also gave away Kits that promote awareness of the pandemic. Dr Theyveeka is set to work wonders this term.
