In conjunction with the Sports Carnival of one of the sixth form schools in Alor Setar, the Parents & Teachers’ Association (PTA) held a carnival at which 18 vendors participated and the Inner Wheel Club of Alor Setar (IWC AS) was one of them.

The aim of participating in this Carnival was to sell pre-loved items to raise money for charity.  It has been said that one woman’s declutter can be another woman’s treasure, and this was certainly the case when visitors thronged the stall of the Club to buy various items, like clothes, shoes, bags, scarves, costume jewellery, books, etc., all of which were still in good condition and given away by the members themselves as well as family and friends.

The carnival spanned two days from 9 to 10 November 2022, but Club members started collecting the items several days earlier, culminating in a meet at the School on 8 November to transport the boxes of items collected, to sort them by category and to determine the price.

Members worked furiously on the morning of 9 November to get the stall ready to welcome visitors. The Club’s banner and bannerettes that were strategically displayed at the entrance and side were indeed an added attraction as they fluttered in the wind, almost like welcoming the visitors.  Concerns of members that the rainy season would be a damper were unfounded. The two days saw clear skies which enabled visitors to the Carnival to shop and select items that they liked, while also savouring a variety of food and drinks at the other stalls.

At the end of the second day, a considerable number of items had been sold, and the Club’s drive and efforts to raise funds for charity epitomised Inner Wheel’s theme of WORK WONDERS. IWC AS thanks all those who contributed items towards the successful fruition of this event. A huge vote of thanks to the PIBG of the school for the opportunity availed to IWC AS.
