Christmas Project cum Fellowship Lunch at the Convent of Holy Infant Jesus
Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur
23 November 2022
Carols were reverberating from the hall. Dashing through the snow … unfortunately we don’t have snow in Malaysia. The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) celebrated Christmas a little early on the 23rd Nov 2022. It was in the form of the Christmas Project cum Fellowship Lunch at Convent Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ), Cheras with 30 Nuns, 11 caregivers, 39 members and 7 guests.
The nuns are all retired but had dedicated their services especially in the field of education. There are quite a few members who attended Convent schools and many still have fond memories of their student days being taught by the nuns who were referred to as Sisters.
IWCKL’s members and guests arrived as early as 9am. President Jinny delivered her address, followed by Sister Stephanie's address. Members and donors contributed generously and managed to raise RM7,100 in cash donations. This year CHIJ received a floor scrubbing machine, 5 units of overbed tables, Pureen bed pads, 2 units of electrical fans, adult Pampers and 30 set of gifts for the nuns. In addition, the Club purchased Xmas decorations, Christmas hats, Paper plates, bowls, forks and spoons, Toilet rolls, Tissue paper etc.
A Christmas fellowship is never complete without carol singing. The choir session was accompanied by Sothie Paul (a past member) on the piano while To’ Puan Leepin led the singing. The audience sang some favourite Christmas songs including Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, Joy To The World and We Wish you a Merry Christmas. 🎅
The Christmas Lunch
It certainly was a very sumptuous lunch with a great variety of food. Food donations from members and friends included:
Roast Turkey, Roast Leg of Lamb, Chicken Spaghetti, Jelly Cake, Mushroom Soup, Potato Salad, coffee /Tea & fruits, Dark Chocolate Walnut Brownies, Pumpkin/Yam kueh, Pie Tee, Inari Sushi, Chee Cheong Fun/Yong Tau Foo, Tom Yam Meehoon, Kuih Teo Chew, Seaweed Rolls, Cakes, Pulut Tekan/Kaya, Tapioca bengkang, Shepard's Pie, Fish keropok and Baked Cream macaroni.
Coordinator Margaret Yee and team did an excellent job. Everyone enjoyed spending happy time together to cheer up the nuns for a Christmas festive season.
A fitting tribute on the part of IWCKL to care for the nuns who have given their lives to educating and building this country. The nuns were very appreciative and enjoyed themselves. In fact, one of the Sisters shared that they really enjoyed our company chatting and spending some time with them! Hopefully IWCKL will continue to organize the Xmas Fellowship for CHIJ for many more years.
