IWCKL’s Chinese New Year Fellowship lunch

Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur’s (IWCKL) Chinese New Year (CNY) Fellowship lunch was held on Thursday, 2nd Feb. 2023, at The Le Quadri Hotel-Kuala Lumpur in Taman Connaught, Cheras (within the grounds of the UCSI University). The February General Meeting preceded the CNY Fellowship lunch, at 11am. The general meeting was quick, informative and short with President Jinny updating on recent and forthcoming projects.
It was a great honour that Royal Patron DYMM Tuanku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Aishah Rohani graced the occasion. The Lion Dance troupe displayed much pomp, skills and drumming rhythm while ushering in the Royal Patron, Honorary Member Toh Puan Aishah Ong and guests into the Hall. President Jinny Lum welcomed and greeted everyone with the traditional “Gong Xi Fa Cai” and Happy New Year! A cheque was presented to teacher Madam Yong who represented PIBG SMK Jinjang. This donation is for the school’s Cultural development.
Top on the menu list for the Fellowship Lunch was “yee sang” also known as “lou sang”. What do you say during the tossing of lou sang? Datin Brenda very eloquently recited the traditional sayings. Some members responded with “Heng Ah”, “Ong Ah” and “Huat Ah” (which simply translates to We bring you lots of fortune, prosperity and wealth …) Food was sumptuous and served in big portions.
It is certainly a privilege that Bill Keith supported IWCKL and offered his beautiful creations to delight and entertain the guests, at the CNY Luncheon. Bill is a much sought after Fashion Designer. He has won many fashion awards at home and abroad. For the fashion show, the models who are IWCKL’s members looked extra good and very professional. The models were beautifully transformed beyond recognition. They brought out that zest for life and fun on the catwalk! Of course, Bill did a fantastic and amazing job decorating the hall with the stark, red-hued curtains as backdrop, and creating a warm and lovely ambience.
Some 50 members participated in the best Rabbit Competition. Can this be the greatest number of rabbits competing in a single gathering? A prized painting will be given for the best rabbit selected whether it is ornamental or a soft toy etc. One rabbit contestant went missing. Hence the winner will be announced only after she is found. Typically, Rabbits breed quickly. Here’s wishing all good health and prosperity to multiply many folds in the year of the Rabbit! Also, appreciation to Juanita whose creative idea of Rabbits-competition added colour and meaning to the function. She sponsored the lovely table gifts.
Congratulations to President Jinny, Juanita, Bill Keith, Organising Chairman Datin Regina, all the members, models also the dancers, contributors and donors for making IWCKL’s CNY 2023 memorable and as always so enjoyable. A truly wonderful CNY Celebration with wonderful decor, superb entertainment, good food and great company. The members and guests enjoyed themselves. The whole program was very well organized. Overall, the CNY fellowship lunch was a resounding success.
The performers, dancers, models, singers Datin Gerardine and Florence as well as MC Linda Lim were wonderful and praise-worthy. A big thank you to all the members for hosting, celebrating Chinese New Year and contributing in cash and in kind eg. sponsoring the ang pows, mandarins, decorations, members who brought in Chinese New Year cookies etc.
