District Chairman’s visit and Signing of Sisterhood Agreement with IWCSFLU Philippines
Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor
28 January 2023
28th January was an extraordinary day for Inner Wheel Club of Subang Selangor. The club welcomed District Chairman Krishnaveni Mutthiah for the annual DC visit, and also had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation of seven from Inner Wheel Club of of San Fernando La Union (IWCSFLU), Philippines. Members from the Philippines IWC were present to participate in a ‘sister club’ signing ceremony. The idea of a sister club had been in the pipeline for IWCSS for more than a decade. The plan surfaced again when club member and National Representative Parimala Satheesan met PNP Mary Jane Ortega of IWCSFLU at the South Asian Rally in Bangladesh in 2022. Her initiative to follow this through culminated in a signing ceremony. ISO Shamala Dharan with her meticulous eye for detail organised the formal aspects of this ceremony and Parimala graciously hosted the delegation at her house.
IWCSS members, DC Chairman Krishnaveni Mutthiah and the Philippines delegation started this special day at Sekolah Menengah Taman Sri Muda. IWCSS member Asha, a teacher from the school presented to the DC and the visitors a major project the club had undertaken to restore the school’s Counselling room and one of the classrooms after the devastating floods last year. Asha and other staff members from SMK Taman Sri Muda escorted the group to the renovated counselling room and classroom. Presidents and Senior members of both the clubs were presented with tokens of appreciation. A wonderful display of Silambam, a popular variant of martial arts using bamboo sticks by the students was the highlight of the school visit.
The group then adjourned to Kelab Golf Negara Subang for morning tea followed by a sumptuous lunch. PDC Shanthi Menon as MC for the day ensured that the events of the day flowed smoothly. IPP Indira Menon led the group in reciting the IIW poem after the lighting of the candle.
President Tara Menon presided over the 6th General Meeting and presented a report on the club’s projects and fellowship activities to DC Krishnaveni. DC expressed her appreciation for the projects that the club had undertaken and wished IWCSS all the best in their future endeavours.
Past National President Mary Jane Ortega of Philippines, NR Parimala Satheesan and DC Krishnaveni Mutthiah addressed both the clubs and spoke on fellowship matters. Presidents of both clubs were excited at the prospect of sister club activities in the coming years.
IWCSS has now been presented with a formal opportunity to create new initiatives and a better understanding through mutual activities with IWCSFLU. The club is looking forward to forming a new circle of friends in Inner Wheel outside Malaysia. The day was filled with lots of chatter, singing, exchanging of gifts and members learning new things about sister club protocols. 2023 has begun with an exciting event and hope the rest of the year will be as meaningful. Mabuhay!
