Vaisakhi is an ancient Sikh harvest festival marking the beginning of a new year and new harvest season. It is one of the most significant holidays in the Sikh calendar. To celebrate the festive occasion, the Sikh members of the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) hosted The Vaisakhi Fellowship lunch. It was held at the Sagar Restaurant Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday the 26th April 2023.  41 members and 9 guests attended the function.  The Club’s Honorary Member Toh Puan Hjh Dr Aishah Ong was the guest of Honour.

The hostesses had meticulously planned the Fellowship. Food was sumptuous and everyone enjoyed their lunch. There was lots of fun, playing some interactive games eg. Bursting the balloons etc and prizes were given out to the winners. Datin Brenda won the best dressed costume.

Project Coordinator, Vice President Rani took the opportunity to thank Toh Puan Aishah for her ever so generous donations.  Rani also expressed a big thank you to all the members & donors who had come forward and so generously donated towards the three Vaisakhi Projects.

The first Charity project was held on Monday, 1st May at 11.00 am.  It was sponsored by the Club and the Sikh Insider. Food provisions were donated to 105 people from the B40 group of this organisation. The MP for Wangsa Maju, YB Encik Zahir Hassan was present together with members from Sikh Insider and the Club.

The second Charity Project was held on Sunday, 7th May at 12 noon. 37 school children each received RM50.00 to help them to buy school uniforms.  Datin Davinder, Surinder and Rani were present for the cheque presentation to the Vice President of the Sikh Welfare Society, Malaysia, who is none other than our very own Committee member Balvinder.

The final project is scheduled for the end of May and will be to the Senior Citizens Retreat Centre in Ulu Yam Baru.  This is to cater for the Sikh Community mainly for the poor and medically infirm. The Club will be purchasing of two HP air-conditioning units, in addition to bearing the cost of upgrading their toilets and adding railings.
