The Versatile Bitter Gourd

Did you know that a slice of banana set nicely within a slice of steamed bitter gourd, topped with a gooseberry and drizzled with the finest honey, makes for an absolutely delightful dessert? Well, that’s exactly what six members of IWC AS discovered when they attended a cooking demo organised by the Tzu Chi Recycling and Education Centre in Alor Setar.

 

Using bitter gourd as the main ingredient, the master chefs churned out the most amazing dishes, with members watching spell bound - as the bitter gourd transformed into finger licking curry and aromatic soup, in addition to a variety of fritters, with turmeric, oats and salted egg.

 

When invited to savour all the dishes, members did not take long to be converted from ‘no, bitter gourd not for me’ to ‘die hard bitter gourd fans’.

 

A huge thank you to Helen of the Tzu Chi Centre for this opportunity. The members look forward to attending more cooking sessions and even helping out in the preparations in the forthcoming cooking classes.

 

Yes, we can WORK WONDERS, even with that versatile bitter gourd.
