The Crystal Celebration and Appreciation Award ceremony of the Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East was held on 4th June 2023 at Weil Hotel, Ipoh. The aim of the event was to appreciate the great effort achieved by individuals from the club throughout its years of existence in friendship and service.
Members from almost all sister clubs in Inner Wheel District 330, Rotarians and various NGOs graced the event. There were also members from District 331 and other friends from near and far who joined in the celebration.
The guest of honour was Mr Wong Kar Keat who is the Political Secretary to and representing Yang Berhormat Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Federal Minister of Local Government Development.
District Chairman Krishnaveni Mutthiah attended the event, coming all the way from Klang. National Representative Parimala Satheesan of Districts 330 and 331, and her husband, Rotary District 3300’s Past Assistant Governor Satheesan Gopalan who hail from Kuala Lumpur were also present. Deputy National Representative Datin Dr Ramani Subramaniam, Club President Sarala Govindan Nair who was accompanied by her husband Dr Chandra Segar were there to welcome everyone.
To kick start the event, Inner Wheel protocols were adhered to by lighting the Candle of Friendship and reciting the Friendship Poem which was followed by the loyal toasts.
The entertainment then modestly started with 3 cultural dances by “Ipoh East Roses” which were thunderously applauded by the crowd.
President Sarala gave her welcome address to all the members and guests. This was followed by the President’s presentation of a gift to the guest of honour and the introduction of her Exco members.
The next item was the rendering of a Chinese song by IWC Ipoh East’s very own songbird, Shobhna. The crowd showed their appreciation with rounds of applause during and after her song.
A hi-tea buffet with a variety of delicious spreads was enjoyed by all the guests. Adding more fun and entertainment to the event were the colourfully dressed ‘Funky Divas’ who mesmerised the guests with their sexy dances before and after tea.
Once the hi-tea was over, a heartfelt video message from International Inner Wheel President Zenaida Farcon was relayed. It captured the attention of all the Inner Wheel members. Then the guests had the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy the cinemascope screen of IWC Ipoh East’s 15-year journey.
The Appreciation Award ceremony began with a memorial recognising the club’s late members: Datin Dr Joges Pathmakanthan, Mrs Acelia Cheah, Mrs May Pooley and Mrs Anne Mahendran. A write-up of their contributions was read by the MCs and their photos were displayed on the screen.
The following event was the appreciation and recognition of the dedicated and committed Past Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers.
This award ceremony also included the awards for the two best Committed and Dedicated Social Project Organisers. Rajeswary Nagalingam who was awarded in recognition of her leadership in two long-term projects and Gomathy Ramachandran for her two years face shield project during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
District Chairman Krishnaveni Mutthiah, in her speech, appreciated the President and committee for organising such a wonderful event. Three new members Subhashini Nair Govindan, Uma Baskaran and Shobhna Nair were inducted during the function.
An anniversary cake cutting and a photography session were also organised. Eleven participants won the lucky draws held during the event. The guests and members had the opportunity to participate in two games called “mystery box” and “handbag organiser” which were facilitated by the youngest member of the club Miss Kanimozhi a/p Samuthirapandian.
The function came to an end with all the guests and IWC Ipoh East members taking to the dance floor. It was a successful and enjoyable event indeed!
