It was a bright, sunny morning when D330, 4th youngest club, IWC Alor Setar visited the 3rd oldest club, IWC Taiping, on 8th Sept in Taiping.  IWCAS members were greeted by President Harbajan Kaur accompanied by members. They were treated with refreshing umbra juice and snacks and presented with an IWC cap each. In exchange, VP Dr. Rosni presented some Kedah delicacies to President Harbajan.

For the first time, some members of IWC Taiping also donned their new club batik songket jackets.

Taiping is a Heritage Town, which will be 150 years old in 2024 and it is known for many first historical sites. Members were taken on a tour of

  1. Perak Museum (1883), the oldest museum in Malaysia that highlights the history of the state.
  2. Taiping War Cemetery (1946), where World War II British soldiers across Peninsular Malaysia were re-interred.
  3. Taiping Zoo (1961), the only zoo in northern Peninsular Malaysia.
  4. Taiping Lake Gardens (1880), the first public garden with magnificent, huge and ancient (over 100 years old) rain trees, lined the walkway.
  5. Antong Coffee Factory  (1933) is the oldest coffee mill in Malaysia, famous for charcoal roasted coffee. Members had an insight into coffee coffee-making process and tried the hot coffee and coffee ice cream.
  6. Wonder Farm Mushroom, a family-run business for more than 30 years. They cultivate various types of mushrooms by organic farming. Members were enthralled by the complex process of farming and enjoyed a refreshing mushroom juice.

It was a day of forming new friendships, good camaraderie and fellowship.

Memories of refreshing umbra juice, mushroom juice, coffee ice cream intertwined with iconic sites and friendly members will linger on for many years to come.
