The Jaffna Meet

On a personal trip to Sri Lanka President Tara was presented with an opportunity to meet up with members of the Inner Wheel Club of Jaffna, District 322. ISO Shamala Dharan was enthusiastic about this, and quickly through her contact in Colombo made all the arrangements for this to eventuate. It all came together rather well with President Tara’s Convention being in Jaffna. President Sharmila, Secretary Felicia, Treasurer and VP of Inner Wheel Club of Jaffna travelled for a quick meet-up with the President at the convention location. The formalities of IW were adhered to flags exchanged and a new friendship established. Pre-departure, President Tara realised that she had very little luggage and that the others traveling along with her also could accommodate more baggage. With a quick consensus from members, a shopping list was prepared and Treasurer Jayanthi was assigned to do the purchasing. Reliable as always Jayanthi wasted no time in shopping and had a large box filled with towels, toothbrushes, toothpastes and soaps, all ready for the flight.
Life has not been easy for the remote communities in Sri Lanka as the country is doing its best to come out of recession. Inflation and the cost of essentials have taken their toll on the poor. The donation was well received and hopefully, it will temporarily ease the burden for some families. In the true spirit of IW, President Tara and members from IWC of Jaffna were able to share club matters and end the meeting on a sweet note with ice cream and banter.
