Birthday Celebration: A tribute to an absolute woman of substance

Birthdays are the perfect opportunity to remind your friends how much you appreciate and care about them. President Harbajan Kaur of Inner Wheel Club of Taiping (IWCT) organized a tea party at Double Tap Cafe to celebrate IIW Past Board Director Mrs M. Rathy’s birthday on Sunday 15th October 2023. Mrs Rathy is the most senior and accomplished member of the club. Here is her brief biodata as well as her achievements.

She was born in Taiping, completed primary and secondary education in Convent Taiping, and subsequently form six in King Edward VII School.

She married PP M. Mahendran (Rotary Club of Taiping) in 1970 and the following year she pursued a Degree in Social Science at Science University of Malaysia. She delivered her 2 sons and graduated with an Honours Degree simultaneously. After graduation, she had a short stint as a teacher but later became a full-time homemaker and assisted her husband in their family business.


INNER WHEEL CLUB OF TAIPING;

Her late mother-in-law, Mrs L.A. Markandu was the Charter Secretary in 1955 and later became a President 4 times.

Her late mother Mrs K.S.S Maniam was President in 1967/68.

She is a second-generation IWC member and Inner Wheel is in her blood.


CLUB;

She became a member of IWCT in 1982, served as Treasurer, Secretary (5 times) and President (4 times).


DISTRICT;

Vice Chairman, District Secretary (4 times), ISO (2 times), DEC.

District Chairman in 2003 -2004, during her term, IWCT celebrated its 50th Anniversary.


NATONAL REPRESENTATIVE 2007/2008 .

Committee member of Organizing Committee of the 14th International Inner Wheel Convention held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.


INTERNATIONAL INNER WHEEL BOARD DIRECTOR 2010- 2011


EXEMPLARY COMMUNITY SERVICE THROUGH INNER WHEEL-

Awarded by Inner Wheel Club of Ipoh East on 8th March 2012.
