Pink October –Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Inner Wheel Club of Butterworth on Saturday 28th October 2023, in line with International Inner Wheel’s observance of Pink October – Breast Cancer Awareness month, organised a talk in collaboration with Pantai Hospital Penang. The club conducted whole project online via zoom to ensure maximum outreach and the invited speaker was from Pantai Hospital’s eminent General Surgeon Dr. Elsa Jasmin Roslan and there were some fifty participants joined online session.

Dr Elsa expertly engaged her audience as she explained in detail all about the dreaded illness including symptoms, detection, diagnosis, treatment and aftercare. It was a well-received talk judging from the interaction during the Q&A session which followed, the online session was moderated by District Editor and Charter President of IWC Butterworth Lucy Barrock.

President Shanthi Shanmugam of IWC Butterworth was effusive in her praise of Dr Elsa’s smooth but fact- filled delivery in what is obviously one of her areas of expertise although she is also more than competent in other surgical disciplines as well. Participants were relieved to find out that breast cancer survivors have better treatment options and longer lifespans than ever before.

Members of the IWC Butterworth donned pins bearing the pink ribbon logo kindly provided by club Secretary Dr Lalitha Ramasamy and some even sported a background specially designed for this online talk. The club is especially grateful to members of sister clubs from District 330 who took precious time off to support the project with their participation.
