Deepavali Charity Project
Ten members of the Inner Wheel Club of Butterworth gathered on Sunday, 29th October 2023 at the Sri Sithi Vinayagar Hindu temple, Nibong Tebal, Penang to conclude the club’s Deepavali charity project. Club members generously contributed and raised funds, which involved sourcing items worth RM100 each for festive season groceries for fifty financially challenged families.
The recipients were carefully vetted in consultation with Tamil schools in the vicinity of Nibong Tebal. Club members also enthusiastically selected the provisions and helped source quality products at competitive prices.
The Vinayagar temple’s committee observed the distribution and was happy to learn about the wonderful work that Inner Wheel Clubs do locally and worldwide. They praised IWC Butterworth for its efforts and thanked the club on behalf of the recipients of the groceries.
For President Shanthi Shanmugam, it was a walk down memory lane as she had grown up in the area and taught in a local school early in her career as a teacher. She also gladly welcomed into IWC Butterworth her former student businesswoman Ganga Devi Ganesh who was introduced by Club Secretary Dr Lalitha Ramasamy.
IWC Butterworth is very grateful to the Vinayagar temple’s committee for the use of the temple’s hall to facilitate distribution and to its members for their generosity of spirit. Members are now looking forward to their own Deepavali celebrations with their families
