Deepavali Lunch and Fellowship at the Commonwealth Club KL

Deepavali or Diwali symbolises the spiritual “victory of lights over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.” Its celebration not only represents the rich cultural heritage of our diverse community but also serves as a reminder of the values that bind us together. This Festival of Lights reminds us of the importance of compassion, empathy, kindness, and understanding in our interactions with one another.

On 21st November 2023, IWCKL held a Deepavali Lunch and Fellowship at the Commonwealth Club Kuala Lumpur. In line with IWCKL tradition, the Indian Members played host to all the other members of the Club. 56 members and Guest of Honour Toh Puan Dato’ Seri Hjh Dr Aishah Ong attended the joyous event.

All the members adorned the fine beautiful sarees and Indian traditional outfits to celebrate Deepavali. The buffet lunch was sumptuous with an array of delicious Indian food. The host brought from home masala tea, murukku, Indian snacks and jellies. Everyone enjoyed the food.

After lunch, there was a flurry of activities lined up for the Members. It was good to see how supportive the members were when they rushed in to participate. The competition of tying the sarees, blindfold dish-naming, treasure hunt and best sarees were tremendously enjoyed by the members. The best sarees were eventually selected and the winners were two Chinese members who made great efforts to dress for the occasion.

Everyone enjoyed themselves with so much good food, fun, laughter, and camaraderie. All the members thanked President Rani Gummit and the Indian members for hosting the event giving the members the opportunity to interact with each other and having so much joy.

There was a cake-cutting ceremony by the hostess and Toh Puan Aishah. Then a gift of coral necklace was presented to Toh Puan Aishah by President Rani Gummit as a token of appreciation for her unlimited and continuous support for IWCKL.
