Penang Goes Orange campaign event
The Inner Wheel Club (IWC) of Butterworth is a strategic partner of the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) in the ten-year-old Penang Goes Orange (PGO) campaign. Thanks to the efforts of Club Secretary Dr Lalitha Ramasamy, a lecturer by profession and a passionate women’s rights activist, the club is more involved than in previous years in PGO which is aligned with the global campaign against Gender Based Violence (GBV).
The campaign is held from 25th November to 10th December every year and Dr Lalitha has been busy giving talks to the public at large to bring awareness to a related topic namely, Bullying- including in Cyberspace. Her most recent talk was at Raja Tun Uda Secondary School in Penang on 24th November 2023 which was attended by among others, IWC Butterworth’s committee member Rathiga Kathervallo and members of the Royal Malaysian Police.
On 25th November 2023, Dr Lalitha was accompanied by Club Member Ganga Devi Ganesh for the launch of PGO at Padang Kota Lama. The two ladies with children in tow also joined in the two-kilometre solidarity walk against bullying with the rest of the hundreds of participants from other NGOs.
