Prize Giving and Appreciation Ceremony at Sekolah Semangat Maju
President Harbajan Kaur, PIIWBD Rathy Mahendran, Past President Harvinder Kaur, Past President Susan Tan, Doris Cheah and Jagdish Kaur attended the Prize Giving and Appreciation Ceremony at Sekolah Semangat Maju Taiping (SSMT), at 9 am on 14th December 2023. Inner Wheel Club of Taiping (IWCT) has been supporting this school for mentally challenged children since 1995.
The school Chairman, Mr Joseph Lau in his speech said that the school building of 90 years old needs repairs. The school board has been trying to build a new two-storey building but has not been able to secure sufficient funding. This has been more difficult in the last four years, due to COVID-19, the school was unable to hold the yearly fundraising food fair.
During the awards ceremony, prizes were given to the students for attendance, schooling achievements and project participation. The students put up an impressive performance of a fashion show, traditional dances, wushu, action songs and solo singing. The audience was enthralled with their beautifully choreographed and entertaining performances.
Tokens of appreciation were given to government officials and NGO representatives. Brunch was served to all attendees.
