Pleats of Love


International Service Organiser (ISO) Aasha Nambiar of IWC Butterworth introduced a project to club members to collaborate with Sungai Petani Hindu Sevai Sangam’s ‘Pleats of Love’ initiative. Members were happy to adhere to the instructions to gather their preloved sarees, get them cleaned and individually packed for distribution to the less fortunate.

On 17th August 2024, President Shanthi Shanmugam, Secretary Sellam Murugiah, ISO Aasha and Charter Member Sornakumari Dhurairaj took 150 squeaky clean, neatly packed sarees and delivered them to Ms Uva of Mutaiyas Cash and Carry store in Sungai Petani, Kedah which served as a collection point.

The ladies also took the opportunity to visit the Vinayagar temple in town and paid a courtesy call on Aasha’s parents who reside in Sungai Petani. IWC Butterworth is an active club which has served the local community since its inception five years ago and promotes friendship amongst its members. Members have embraced International Inner Wheel’s current themes of ‘Heartbeat of Humanity’ and ‘Reach and Inspire for a better world’ this term.
