Anti-Scam Awareness Talk

On 26 August, four members of IWC AS attended a talk on Anti-Scam Awareness at the Royal Kedah Club, Alor Setar. This insightful talk was delivered by Superintendent Loi of the Kedah-Perlis Commercial Crime Division. Given the increasing sophistication of scammers today, this talk could not have come at a more opportune time.

Superintendent Loi provided a comprehensive overview of the various types of scams currently prevalent today, such as love scams, spoofing, investment scams, phone scams, and online work scams. With more and more advanced technology becoming easily available, like AI and ChatGPT, he is very sure that scammers will continue to use these technologies to trap innocent victims.

Superintendent Loi’s detailed explanation of the modus operandi of these scammers, from the use of money mules to the exploitation of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, highlighted just how challenging it is to detect these fraudulent activities.

Continuing his talk, the speaker shared practical tips on how to avoid falling victim to these scams. He emphasized the importance of increasing security measures and safeguarding information, specifically related to banking and personal information. He also equipped the attendees with knowledge that could help them protect themselves and their loved ones.

It was a truly an enlightening and informative session, one that everyone should attend to stay informed and vigilant in these times.

Thank you Superintendent Loi. IWC AS will continue to reach and inspire for a better world by equipping members via enlightening and relevant talks from time to time.
