An Act of Compassion and Kindness


The Inner Wheel theme of 2024-2025, Heartbeat of Humanity – Every beat counts, every action matters - resonates strongly with members of the Inner Wheel Club of Alor Setar (IWC AS). On 18 September 2024, the Club’s journey toward making a difference began when a sum of RM 1,330 was donated to the Children’s Home of Hope, managed by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.

This compassionate act of giving was sparked by a WhatsApp message from a friend, David Wu. David had recently visited the home, and deeply moved by the children and their caregivers, sent out a call for help. He shared that he is not related to the children in that Home, “….but it does not really take much to empathize if you have a pulse…”. On 6 October 2024, with a group of nine men and women from Alor Setar, David will be participating in the Stanchart KL Marathon to raise both awareness and funds for the Children’s Home of Hope. This Home offers a lifeline to underprivileged children battling cancer and their caregivers, providing them with comfortable lodging, a safe and sterile environment, nutrition, and financial allowance for the caregivers to commute between the Hospital and the Home.

This Marathon is no small feat - a gruelling 42-kilometer run that will push the participants to their physical limits. Yet, David and his team have pledged to cross the finish line, no matter the obstacles, and to quote David, “…come hell or high water…”, driven by their desire to make a difference.

Inspired by this noble cause, IWC AS members decided that they too must contribute. Though the donation may seem small, it is given with a fervent belief that this offering will provide a ray of light to families burdened by the weight of cancer, helping them care for their children while they fight for their lives.

Members of IWC AS pray for the children - too young to fully grasp the severity of their illness - to receive the treatment they need, and more importantly, the future they deserve. Every beat, every action, matters deeply; and in this simple gesture, the heartbeat of humanity pulsates stronger.
