Orang Asli Project in Sungai Melut

The Inner Wheel Club of KL North, in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club of KLCC, successfully executed a joint project aimed at promoting children’s health and addressing critical medical needs within the indigenous community of Sungai Melut, Sepang, Selangor. This initiative, generously supported by a RM500.00 sponsorship, was carried out in partnership with Yayasan Orang Asli, the Pediatric Department, and the Pediatric Dental Department of Hospital Cyberjaya.

The primary objective of the project was to raise awareness about children’s health issues and facilitate access to necessary medical treatment and intervention. Additionally, the event aimed to identify children suffering from stunting and other health problems. The event took place on October 26, 2024, from 8 AM to 1 PM, and included a range of activities designed to benefit the indigenous children.

To ensure the well-being of the children, a comprehensive health screening was conducted. This included essential checks such as measuring vital signs, assessing height and weight, conducting dental examinations, and performing eye screenings. The gathered data provided valuable insights into the children’s overall health status and helped identify those in need of immediate medical attention.

In addition to the health screenings, informative sessions were organized to educate parents and caregivers about crucial health topics. These sessions covered a wide range of subjects, including the importance of hygiene and sanitation, the benefits of a balanced diet and nutrition, the prevention of common childhood illnesses, and the early detection of health problems. By equipping parents with knowledge and empowering them to make informed decisions, the project aimed to improve the long-term health outcomes of the children.

To further support the children’s health and well-being, essential medical supplies, such as medications, first-aid kits, and nutritional supplements, were distributed. These supplies will help address immediate health needs and provide ongoing support.

Beyond the medical aspects, the event also fostered a sense of community and provided a joyful experience for the children. Breakfast and lunch were provided, and gifts and donations were distributed, bringing smiles to the faces of the young participants. This holistic approach to the project ensured that not only were the children’s physical health needs addressed, but their emotional well-being was also prioritized.

The collaborative effort between the Inner Wheel Clubs, Yayasan Orang Asli, and the Pediatric Departments of Hospital Cyberjaya has made a significant impact on the lives of the indigenous children in Sungai Melut. By raising awareness, providing essential medical services, and fostering community engagement, this project has empowered the community to take charge of their health and create a brighter future for their children.
