Deepavalli Cheer with Anbu Illam Boys’ Home

On 04 November 2024, the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur North (IWCKLN) organized a heartfelt community outreach projec t at Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam, a home for underprivileged boys located in Taman Permata, Kuala Lumpur. The home, which has been operational since 1987 and is registered with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, provides shelter, care, and support to boys from disadvantaged backgrounds. Originally based in Kuala Kubu Bharu, the home relocated to its current premises in 1988 to better cater to the needs of the children. Currently, the home houses around 30 boys, many of whom have experienced significant hardship in their lives.

The purpose of this outreach was to foster a sense of community and friendship by engaging directly with the boys, offering them a nutritious meal, and providing gifts as a gesture of goodwill. A total of 12 boys from the home participated in the event, where they were joined by several members of IWCKLN, including President Sarojini Bhai, Past Presidents Megala and Thanaletchumy, Treasurer Meena, and Mrs. Shenbagavalli. The event began with a warm welcome from the children and staff, followed by the distribution of thoughtful gifts: T-shirts and an Ang Pow containing RM 20 for each of the boys.

Lunch was served shortly after, featuring a special meal of vegetable biryani, cucumber-onion-carrot raita, cabbage, potatoes varuval, vegetable mutton curry, meal maker paratel, kesari, vadai, appalam, and syrup. The meal was a festive treat for the boys, the opportunity to enjoy such a varied and rich spread. The IWCKLN members served the food with care and spent time chatting with the children, learning more about their lives and experiences at the home. The atmosphere was filled with warmth, laughter, and an overwhelming sense of goodwill.

The outreach was not only about providing a meal and gifts but also about fostering understanding and creating connections between the IWCKLN members and the children. The event allowed both parties to share in a moment of joy and to reflect on the importance of community support and empathy. The boys expressed their gratitude for the thoughtful gestures, and the members of IWCKLN left with a renewed sense of purpose in their commitment to service.

This outreach initiative is part of the Inner Wheel Club’s ongoing mission to support the underprivileged and foster a spirit of friendship and service in the community. By directly engaging with Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam, the IWCKLN members contributed not only to the immediate well-being of the children but also to the broader goal of nurturing understanding and solidarity within the local community.
