Gala Night with Iiw President
On March 8th, 2025, members of the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL), along with other Inner Wheel members from Districts 330, 331 and 332, attended a “Meet & Greet” and “Night Uniquely Malaysian (a blend of cultural diversity and heritage)” event at the Eastin Hotel, Petaling Jaya, in celebration of International Women’s Day. The gathering welcomed IIW President Mamta Gupta, creating a platform for engaging dialogue and cultural immersion. The evening commenced with a stimulating Q&A session, where eight members from various districts posed insightful questions, facilitated by Vice District Chairman Jillian Estrop, eliciting valuable perspectives from President Gupta. Following the exchange, clubs had the opportunity to capture group photos with the esteemed guests, including IIWBD Juanita Lee, NR Shanti Menon, and DC Vimalavathi.
The event then transitioned into a vibrant cultural showcase, beginning with a captivating lion dance performance by students from SMK Jinjang. Two lions, accompanied by a jovial “smiley face” character and the rhythmic sounds of drums and cymbals, led President Gupta into the hall, delighting the audience. Guests eagerly seized the opportunity to photograph themselves with the lions before they presented a gift and a scroll to the IIW President. Further enhancing the cultural immersion, SMK Jinjang students also presented a graceful fan dance, both performances sponsored by IWCKL. After welcome speeches and greetings, a video presentation showcasing IIW President Mamta Gupta’s works and achievements preceded her speech. She expressed her sincere gratitude and conveyed her deep admiration for the diverse and impactful projects undertaken by the various clubs. A sit-down, 8-course Chinese dinner was then served by the hotel staff to the delight of all the guests.
A poignant highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Legacy - International Women Story 2025 awards. Five distinguished women from Malaysian District 330, namely IIWBD Juanita Lee (IWCKL), PDE Padmini Pillai (IWC Alor Setar), IIWPBM Datin Joan Salleh (IWC PJ), PNR Parimala Satheesan (IWC Subang Selangor), and IIWPBD Datin Seetha Lakshmi (IWC Klang), were honoured for their significant contributions. Each awardee was featured in a short video presentation prepared by their club, and DISO Merlin had thoughtfully created beautiful portrait gifts for them. The night concluded with spirited performances from various clubs within the district, leaving a lasting impression of cultural diversity and heritage through celebration. The members were all clad in traditional dresses representing the many cultures that are prominent in Malaysia, like Cheongsam, Baju Kurung, Kebaya and Saree, which added to the evening’s beauty. Before the end of the evening, many members also took the opportunity to be photographed with IIW President Mamta Gupta who obliged with big smiles, which made the ladies going home happy and celebrating all Women in the Inner Wheel Club worldwide.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY to all the beautiful and strong women out there.
