A Night of Shanghai Glamour: Celebrating IWCKL’s 77th Installation with President Yoke Ling

The Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur (IWCKL) truly outdid itself on Saturday, July 5, 2025, as it celebrated its 77th Installation Night with a spectacular “Shanghai Nite” theme. The grand ballroom was transformed into a dazzling cabaret from old Shanghai, setting the stage for a memorable evening.

Guests and members, resplendent in their elegant cheongsams, began arriving after registration, eager to immerse themselves in the themed celebration. The ballroom was a feast for the eyes, adorned with boa feathers draped from chandeliers and gracing the tables, while nostalgic old biscuits offered a delightful touch as appetizers. The Shanghai-themed photo booth, complete with an array of props, proved to be an instant hit, capturing the glamour of the night.

The event commenced punctually with the much-anticipated arrival of the Guest of Honour, Honorary Member YABhg Toh Puan Dr. Aishah Ong. Flanked by the newly elected IWCKL Exco Members, she made a graceful entrance to the iconic tune of “Shanghai Beach,” setting a sophisticated tone for the evening. As the Guest of Honour and other VIPs settled into their seats, the charismatic Emcee Linda skilfully got the ball rolling, guiding guests through the evening’s formalities before the sumptuous dinner began.

Mid-way through the delectable dinner, the highlight of the night commenced. Emcee Linda invited Outgoing President Lena Chua to the stage, where she delivered a heartfelt speech and a compelling slide presentation, showcasing the impactful work accomplished during her tenure. This was followed by the much-anticipated installation of President Pang Yoke Ling. President Yoke Ling delivered a moving speech, sharing her vision and upcoming projects “from the heart,” taking a moment to sincerely thank the generous donors who have supported her initiatives. Following her address, President Yoke Ling proudly introduced her new Exco Committee. The celebration continued with the traditional Anniversary cake cutting, joined by the esteemed IWCKL past presidents.

The entertainment continued to captivate the audience with a graceful Fan Dance performance by IWCKL members, followed by an energetic rendition of “Give Me A Kiss,” both met with resounding applause. As dinner resumed, the IWCKL ladies further enlivened the atmosphere with another captivating dance routine, “Jajambo,” culminating in an invitation for everyone present to join in, creating a truly interactive and joyous moment.

The evening concluded on a high note, with every guest’s stomach satisfied by the delightful 8-course Chinese dinner. The unanimous sentiment echoed throughout the ballroom was that the 77th IWCKL Installation Night had been a resounding success, a true testament to the dedication and spirit of the Inner Wheel Club of Kuala Lumpur.
