A Journey to the Edge of Malaysia: Inner Wheel Finds Fellowship and Wonder in Pulau Kukup

The Inner Wheel Club of KL North recently enjoyed a two-day fellowship trip to Pulau Kukup, a charming Chinese fishing village and a site of significant natural beauty.

Hosted by our sisters from the Johor Bahru branch, the trip was a perfect mix of camaraderie and discovery. We stayed in comfortable dorms, strengthening our bonds through shared laughter and stories.

A major highlight was our boat tour of the Pulau Kukup mangrove island. As a Johor National Park and a designated Ramsar Wetland Site, this unique ecosystem is one of the largest uninhabited mangrove islands in the world. We were amazed to learn that this 647-hectare forest is vital for protecting the coastline and serving as a nursery for countless marine species.

Beyond nature, the fellowship was a feast for the senses. We enjoyed a succession of delicious seafood meals, a relaxing massage session, and a riverside BBQ. The trip also included a special ceremony for the installation of our host club’s President, attended by DC Jillian and Outgoing DC Vimala. The night concluded with a lively party of dancing, singing, and a celebratory cake cutting.

Our final day began with an invigorating Zumba session before a last tour of the swamp reserve. After another grand seafood lunch, we said our goodbyes. This trip was a wonderful testament to the lasting friendships we forge in Inner Wheel, beautifully blended with an appreciation for Malaysia’s natural treasures
