Understanding diabetic wounds in the community



On 27th July 2025, members of IWC Apsaras participated in a health talk on medical awareness seminar at Royal Sungei Ujong Club, Seremban organized by Rotary Club of Senawang.

Members gave a helping hand at the registration desk, in line with “Service Beyond Boundaries”.

The speaker, Dato Dr RS Kumar ( Family Medicine and Wound Care Specialist ) spoke on wound care, prevention and treatment.

Key principles of diabetic wound care discussed were :-

  1. Early detection - regular foot checks, proper footwear and good sugar control ;
  2. Risks – slow healing , infections, amputations if untreated ;
  3. Care – early detection, proper wound cleaning and professional treatment ;
  4. Post operative care and prevention - pain control , wound check, signs of infection, diet control and proper hydration , proper compliance to medication.
  5. Rehabilitation - early care prevents major complications and life threatening issues if neglected .
    • early mobility to improve blood circulation .
    • health education and self management.
    • psychological and moral support from family and care givers.
    • Overall , the seminar was very insightful and informative. It has greatly benefitted the community and increased awareness on the issue.

Acknowledgement was given to our very own Apsaras member , who serves as a dedicated freelance wound care nurse. She was commended by the speaker for her services to the community. We are proud to have her among us.

The session ended with high-tea and fellowship.
