Visit to nady in Langkawi: a celebration of ability, art, and empowerment
In a heartfelt initiative rooted in compassion and inclusion, four members of the Inner Wheel Club of Alor Setar (IWC AS) embarked on a meaningful journey to Langkawi Island to connect with the remarkable youths of NADY (Networking Action for Disabled Youths) - a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering differently-abled individuals through art and vocational training.
Departing in the early morning hours, IWC AS President Ishka Kaur, alongside members Tengku Maheran, Shantha, and Padmini, travelled to Langkawi, where they were warmly received by fellow member Tunku Munirah. Their destination: the NADY centre - a vibrant, creative space where challenges are met with resilience, and where disabilities are transformed into unique forms of expression and ability.
The visit centered around a tie-and-dye t-shirt workshop, led by NADY youth, made possible through a recent donation from IWC AS. The Club’s support enabled the purchase of essential materials including paints, blank t-shirts, and training, allowing the youth to showcase their artistic talents. Club members eagerly participated in the session, engaging in hands-on collaboration and creative exchange.
Throughout the visit, the IWC AS team was given a guided tour of the premises, where they observed an inspiring array of handcrafted items, including batik artwork, greeting cards, tote bags, and framed paintings. Each piece reflected not just skill, but a deep sense of pride and purpose.
Speaking during the visit, President Ishka Kaur shared her reflections:
“These artworks are not just visually beautiful - they are powerful reflections of inner strength, patience, and boundless creativity. The NADY youths have shown us that true ability lies in spirit and determination, not limitations.”
The day concluded with warm fellowship over breakfast and lunch, followed by an exchange of gifts. President Ishka presented each youth with a token of appreciation, while NADY surprised the visiting members with heartfelt, handmade mementos - tangible symbols of gratitude and connection.
The visit left a lasting impact on all involved. More than a Club project, it was a powerful reminder of Inner Wheel’s mission: to promote friendship, encourage personal service, and foster international understanding.
IWC Alor Setar reaffirms its commitment to supporting NADY through future collaborations and initiatives aimed at empowering differently- abled youth and promoting inclusive community development.
